ELL Multiculturalism Trip

TRIP DATES: September 17 - 19, 2026

TEACHER CHAPERONES: Carol Adamson and other chaperones TBD

TRIP DETAILS:

The ELL multiculturalism trip to Vancouver is a trip for our new cohort of ELL students as well as some of our returning ELL students. This weekend will be jam-packed with opportunities for students to practice their conversational English skills, tour around some cultural sites in Vancouver and eat delicious food. The trip includes 2 nights billeting at the Radisson Vancouver Airport hotel and we have lots of activities planned including a visit to the Museum of Anthropology at UBC, Granville Island, and a virtual experience with Fly Over Canada. All costs for the activities are covered by the school, as well as the majority of the meals. Students should have money available for shopping and extra food in case they are hungry. Below is an overview of what we have planned for each day (though some details are subject to change). This trip is mandatory for all NEW ELL students, and returning grade 10 ELL students.

Day One:

  • Depart SMUS at 1:00 PM for the 3:00 PM ferry to Vancouver.

  • Arrive at the hotel in Richmond and have a dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Day Two:

  • Depart the hotel at 8:30 AM for a full day in downtown Vancouver.

  • Activities include Granville Island, Flyover Canada and some shopping at Richmond Centre!

Day Three:

  • Depart the hotel at 9:00 AM for UBC to visit the Museum of Anthropology and the Botanical Gardens.

  • Travel from UBC to the ferry for the return trip to Victoria.
